One needs leaves and fruit to ID the tree accurately, also an idea of habitat (e.g. swamp, ridge, etc).

Yes I couldn't get the leaves or fruit unfortunately as they were too high. It was on a ridge in Yadboro State Forest next to a compartment road a long way from a watercourse. Perhaps there is not information enough to ID it.
