It was an impressive insect, by far the biggest earwig I've ever seen. The pincers looked positively dangerous - presumably useful against predators in its environment such as funnelwebs (although I didn't see any of those).

There is some dispute over the functioning of the abdominal pincers. Ie for folding wings back under elytra or actual defence or just a threat.
