Male bird, one of a suspected pair perched near known potential nesting hollow at 15 Fairfax St. O''Connor. Not a sharp photo but the first CNM record of this species inspecting a hollow at this location: an O'Connor suburban garden. The tree has been identified as E. elata (M. Mulvaney pers. comm.) and is planted and is 60 years old (block bare in 1959 when the house was built). My next door neighbour noticed the nest hollow visible from his property in the nesting season of 2020-21 first making me aware of this early January this year. A pair has visited the nest hollow (at least) on three occasions peviously in Jan-Feb this year ( usually noticed between 5:00 -6:00 pm of an evening) each time displaying to one another and emitting an extended creaking call (suggesting the hollow may now be occupied e.g a possum etc.). Today the other member of the pair (not photographed) was only noticed when the pair flew away a few minutes after this photo was taken. The hollow (estimated to be 10 m high above ground) is on the main trunk (out of sight from a northerly aspect) to the right of the perching bird where the branch meets the main trunk visible only from my neighbour's property.
