This locust would have arrived by a night flight from an area between northern NSW and central QLD a few days ago. Others may have migrated with it so keep a look out. Not easy to approach and photograph. Morphometrically appears to be in the transient rather solitary phase (flat pronotum carina) suggesting it comes from a hopper band or swarm. For more info please contact me.
First record on CNM. Last recorded by me in 1974? When it actually bred. See my paper for details

It was lucky it didn't get run over by the police car parked next to it in the service station. It was quite docile, I had to poke it to get it to move off the concrete ( early morning, probably cold). Interesting that this is habit of taking odd photos of things leads to this discovery!!

Hi Lyndal,
I’ve only just noticed that it it was you that discovered this locust. Your description of the confirms that it was an overnight blow- in, probably disoriented by the fluorescent lights of Ampol. And then too cold by morning to fly off.
Serendipity is a great thing - the right place at the right time which is why CNMs are so good at this. Despite being pretty observant of grasshoppers I have only seen Lm in the tropics since 1974
