Pterohelaeus hirtus (Pie-dish beetle)
Tenebrionidae: Tenebrioninae: Heleini
A large species, distinctive on account of its broad tarsi. Nocturnally active on trunks of moribund or fallen (or felled) eucalypts in the Canberra district.
May occur in company with the similar-sized Pterohelaeus piceus, which has narrow tarsi, a more oval outline and less defined ridges on the elytra.
