Fletcher (https://biodiversity.org.au/afd/taxa/Macroceps_moorei) says 'this distinctively marked species has been recorded at widely separated localities in mainland Australia. M.M. Stevens (pers. comm. 2005) considers that the species is probably not congeneric with the type species of Macroceps'.
