Kahaono montana (Leafhopper)

HEMIPTERA: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae: Dikraneurini

Kahaono leafhoppers are Eucalytus feeders, sucking sap from leaves and stems. Uniquely in the Order Hemiptera, Kahaono montana produces silk, which it extends as a sheet on the surfaces of leaves; the juveniles live under it, presumably for protection. Silk production is, of course, well known in many other kinds of insects, and arachnids.
