Chalcopteroides spectabilis (Rainbow darkling beetle)
One of three large species of Chalcopteroides in the Canberra region, where it is quite common. It is shorter than the other two species, has a rounder (ovate) shape and the 'rainbow' colours often have a bronzy tinge (missing from C. columbinus and C. cupripennis). As in C. columbinus, the elytra carry tiny punctures in longitudinal rows (striae), but the punctures are much closer together, and generally shallower, than those of C. columbinus.
