Cryptachaea gigantipes (White porch spider)

These spiders are native to our region, originally living under rock overhangs and in caves. They are now commonly seen under eaves and in houses! They build three-dimensional webs of varied shapes, and the offspring remain in the mother's web for an extended period. This species can be distinguished from related species by the particularly long front legs. In females, the femur and tibia are equal (or almost equal) to the overall body length. In males, they are much longer than the overall body length!
