NatureMapr community update

 Yesterday

NatureMapr will return to its roots, as a community focused biodiversity reporting platform, primarily focused on the ACT.

We've spent recent months reducing platform complexity and operational costs.

We’ve ensured that all records collected as part of NSW BCT Land Libraries, Glossies in the Mist, Guardians of the Grassy Woodlands and SE Orchids have now been successfully uploaded to NSW BioNet – we thank NSW government for their productive partnership in delivering these projects.

NatureMapr will continue to operate with an ACT focus, thanks to the ongoing support of the ACT Government, whose funding remains the foundation the platform depends on through to FY 29/30.

I’m pleased to confirm that trusted, local ecological consultancy, Capital Ecology, have committed their full support to NatureMapr through continuation of their annual sponsorship.

What this means:

  • NatureMapr will continue to provide full featured resources for the ACT jurisdiction
(including reserves, local field guides and priority species lists)
  • Interactive Map Search will not be reinstated at this time (due to cost)
  • NatureMapr will not prevent users from reporting sightings in other regions
(existing non-ACT sightings will remain accessible)

We’re committed to working with ACT government and the community to find a sustainable, longer-term way to keep operating in the ACT beyond 2029-2030.
