And I'm not even a taxonomist!

I had a blitz of the Orthoptera of the regional NMs this week!

Although not very speciose the 3 super families cause problems because of

1) a taxonomic mess ie the Trigonidiums and Tetrigids

2) difficult keys that often require dissection of genitalia ie Praxibulus & Austroicetes

3) no names ie many Melanoplines

4) morphological variation within species, including different wing lengths and colour patterns ie Phaulacridium, and many others.

5) photos that don't show critical features ie the presence and shape of the prosternal process in Acridoids.

6) Pictures of nymphs
