Both Pterohelaeus piceus and P. planus have a white waxy coating when fresh. P. piceus is slightly larger, and has a more rounded outline with wider flanges on the elytra. P. piceus also has faint lengthwise ridges on the elytra, whereas P. planus has a more uniform granular elytral surface.

The two lowest ones are Pterohelaeus piceus, but the one third from the bottom is a different (smoother) species of Pterohelaeus.
