User's notes

Clump of about 50 plants growing in exotic -native pasture in Watson. I can't recall seeing this plant before either in bushland or gardens. It is most likely a planting and appears to be from the Malvaceae family - but really I haven't a clue and would appreciate some help

The only sensible result from the key to Malvaceae in Plantnet is Hibiscus, assuming there was an epicalyx at some point. Some species of Sida have leaves that are densely stellate hairy and capsules that look like these, but none of the descriptions in Plantnet fit. I tried it in my unfinished draft interactive key, which has a searchable field 'stems with stellate hairs', but no luck. I think you will have to wait for flowers.

It is possibly a variety of Hibisicus rosa-sinesis - I will go back when it is flowering

Hi Michael. I was at that site today. This plant is Sago-leaf Rock Rose (Cistus salviifolius) (pg. 272 of Weeds of the South-East). Garden escapee.
I'll email some photos.
Cheers
