It was originally suggested that this species is Sepia mestus. Pictures 2 and 3, and animal on the right in the main photo look like Sepia mestus to me but the others look like juvenile Sepia apama. Could two species have been photographed here? Sepia apama (unlike Sepia mestus) has three large lobes above each eye. The black false 'eyespots' on the dorsal mantle are characteristic of Sepia mestus.
