This was actually a gorgeous rich caramel colour, which unfortunately did not come through in the photos.

What a fabulous looking fungus. It would have had me baffled, however you've captured a dusting of those bright rust coloured spores in the 2nd and 3rd photos. So I can say it's a Gymnopilus. Though not one I've seen before. Good find.

Thank you. And thank you for educating me, and your encouragement. As a result of a previous confirmation of a sighting of a Ghost fungus, and your comment, we found some more recently and they really do glow in the dark - so exciting to see!
