User's notes

A very old bracket, hoof shaped, concentrically ridged in layers indicating annual growth layers over many years. In this particular case you can see the new younger growth peeping out from below the older hoof. These are very common throughout the forest on both dead and living trees. This particular tree had fallen some time ago but the fungus continued to grow and there were several bodies along the entire length of this log.
