Is that as specific as science allows? Or are there many types which have been lumped together as Phasmatodea, with no second defining Latin name?

Have a go at typing "stick insect" into the Quick Search box, select one of the species and have a look. One of them is close to yours. John.

No, I gently put it onto the bark of a large eucalyptus tree and it steadily made its way up the tree.
Interestingly you , Mike, did not comment on the fact that I put a rule into the photograph to indicate the size of the insect. Are they all large? Obviously the Goliath species is "big".
