This was an interesting colour.

This colour and shape are characteristics that indicate this genus. They tend to be a tidy can relatively compact fungus. Another characteristic is if you break the stem or cap they tend to snap like chalk, this is if the insects haven't got to them first! They are a mycorrhizal fungus so are growing in association with nearby trees, with both helping each other. Did you notice the nearby tree species by any chance?
