Cap of fungi had different coloured dark rings of differing width. The cap was relatively flat and approx. 5 cms across. White underneath but don't think it stained. Narrow stalk, black in colour.

You have me stumped with this one. It does have the look of an Amauroderma rude, however if as you say the pores don't stain I can only think it is a Polyporus species. Any chance you could confirm the pores don't stain when damaged please? In the mean time I'll suggest Polyporus sp.

Hi Pam. Unfortunately, they were all gone. Fungi don't last long in our bush. Hold off though as I am sure I will find another soon enough and then I can confirm it.
Can I also ask here, can the red staining stalked polymer also stain black? I have been finding some that are doing this.

Yes some go very obviously red then black others are a bit variable and it's not unusual to see black. You're such good value thank you so much for your great contributions.

That's very kind Pam. I have been tidying my profile and when I look at my initial contributions I am downright embarrassed. There is certainly growth there, LOL. I have always taken photos of fungi but I am amazed and surprised at just how many different ones we have in one small area. Makes contributing easy. With the variables in the polymers, are they a different type? Should I be posting those ones as well, or not because I've put the red staining polymer up?

From what I understand is that you record species, even if the same species, if you have seen them at a different time and in a different area. This gives some idea of their distribution and they times we are likely to see them. Keep up the good work. And hey it's great that you are finding you are more aware than when you started. That's what it's about as well - capacity building.
