User's notes
An attempt at boldness here in regards to making an ID. A chocolate brown solid fungus with white pores underneath, measuring 8 cms across and 4 cms high. The top felt solid but the pores were soft and spongy. Stalk was thick and shades of brown.

Keep on being bold! Yes, a bolete species belonging to the genus Tylopilus. There is a huge variation of colours within this genus, however the one you've captured is a good example with those lilac-brown tones with the white pores and the stature type. These are mycorrhizal fungi, therefore they are associated with nearby tree/s with both organisms benefitting from the association. Noting the nearby tree species may give you an idea, if you see this fungi again, which ones you are likely find it near.
