User's notes

Having already seen this moth in January 2017, I was surprised to find they were back in November that year, this time in numbers and on several evenings. In the darkness I could just see at least 5 hawk moths turning up to feed on the flowers of a small native frangipani Hymenosporum flavum in our garden. I could not make out what species of hawk moth they were until I got some images using a flash. After taking at least 20 photos most of which I had to delete as they were out of focus, I realised all the moths in the images were Cizara ardeniae.
