Thanks heaps guys for all your excellent moderation! I've learnt a lot just watching all your confirmations come through and really appreciate all the effort and expertise.
I had a lovely time visiting the shoalhaven area and we were lucky to be staying right on the back of a national park. It was really pristine bushland, I was really impressed.
Pam I have a bad habit of pulling some of the fungi out to photograph the underside. Is that generally a dodgy thing to do? I'll make sure I take a mirror in the future to leave them intact.

No not a problem Aaron if you leave the fungus with its fertile surface in its original orientation. This is how we get spore prints as the mature spores are released. A certain amount will be released anyway, though maximum release would be if in the correct orientation. Some of the wildlife does way more damage. Though sometimes if you don't 'excavate' the fungus carefully and get the entire stipe important characteristics may be lost such as volvas (cups at the base of the stipe), swollen or radicating bases. So have a look but try for the whole fungus! Now is the time to start scratching around for truffle/truffle-like fungi. Now that's exciting when you come across those.........

I would dearly love to help you on that one. However at the moment I'm absolutely snowed under and barely keeping up with my moderating, our horse spelling business, farm work and I'm also working on a book.............! I know I need to get a life and prioritise the important things:)
