User's notes

Pretty sure this is an immature Collared Sparrowhawk. There is a breeding pair over between Wodonga TAFE and Latrobe University near University Drive. I saw it last Monday night after the pouring rain but thought it was a falcon, so returned this morning with camera to try my luck. Mud larks were suddenly in uproar; and here it was; doing a fly over though very much looking at the ground and hunting. lucky me.

Hi Kylie, its so tricky to pick between the Collared Sparrowhawks and the Brown Goshawks. Without a frame of reference for size the only reason I could identify it was the range of photos showing the tail feather. The square tail is a good indicator for a Collared Sparrowhawk, did you identify this in the field or after looking at your images?
