User's notes

Found this poor bugger stuck in a trolley on Ettamogah road. I tipped the trolley over and it flew off very sluggish. Not sure if it wasn't healthy or just weighed down from the rain

Great rescue @ChrisAllen, hope it ended well. Talk about taking the term 'urban wildlife' to another level :)

We went back passed and it had moved on so fingers crossed its ok.

Now that is intriguing. Well done Chris.

We’re seeing a lot of evidence at the moment of poisoning in birds of prey with the mouse plague. It is unusual for birds to be in places like this and to exhibit that behaviour. Please if anyone spots another owl demonstrating behaviour like this. Please call me and I’ll come and check it over/pass it onto an appropriate carer. Amy 0412986195

I thought that may have been the case or that it had been hit. But when I approached it was trying to fly off. Then when I let it out it sat on the post but was gone 10 minutes later when I went back passed. Is lethargy common in secondary poisoning?

@ChrisAllen yeah lethargy is a key symptom, barn owls have been shown to eat up to 3 rats a night and more so with mice.
It can take multiple days to succumb to secondary poisoning so it may have very well be starting to feel the effects of it. Fingers crossed for this guy that he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and all he needed was you to rescue him and to find a nice warm place to roost.
