I'd love to know what this grass/sedge is. This prickly looking head, when the grass is bigger, is a shelter for beetles and flies. This one is very new and small.

Why? Old, shortish, slender, pencil-shaped flowerhead, spikelets have already dropped leaving the subtending bristles behind
