I just don't know the difference between bees and flies - I think this is a fly . . .?

Flies only have two pairs of wings the back wings have been converted to club shaped halteres. Bees also have a more restricted waist than flies. Flies also only have short antennas which are the blobby looking things at the front of their face. Hence this is a fly.

Thanks Michael - thought so. I think I'll look for the antennae in future - because the wings always fool me.
