Lovely flatworm. Not one I'm familiar with so I'm excited to see this sighting. I'm guessing it may be Howitts planarian, being at a loss for other options, but I'm sure turb will be able to help out more with this one.
There are a few species of land planarians that are similar in appearance, and it can be difficult to distinguish between them on the basis of a photo, especially if the eye pattern is indistinct. This species can be separated from Artioposthia howitti as the latter has a single row of eyes contouring the anterior tip and continuing in a single row posteriorly. Also the stripe pattern of typical examples of these species differs. Caenoplana species are sticky and are relatively slow moving, whereas A. howitti moves quite rapidly. The ALA has the species incorrectly listed as Australopacifica subviridis. It is really Caenoplana subviridis, based on an anatomical examination of the Type specimen.
Wow! The first sighting of this species on Canberra Nature Map! I'm so thrilled, never ever expected to get a 'significant sighting'! Thank you so much!
