Hi Radha, I'm pretty sure this ant is Myrmecia nigriceps, a common ant around the Canberra region which has the same distinctive blackish head and tail with a red/brown body as your ant. Myrmecia fucosa looks a bit similar but, as far as I know, hasn't been found in this region. Cheers, Jon
