I think this is a Baillon's crake? First time seeing this species. This individual kept popping in and out of the reeds along the edge of the path, trying to work out what I was

Not a baillons, but a buff banded rail. Key difference between rails and crakes is their size (baillons are absolutely tiny). Buff banded also have red bills, a clear white brow, stripes on the breast and a small buff band on their underside
