Thanks @Tapirlord, agree this is a very cool eucalypt, I really enjoyed checking it out, and was very glad there were many buds and fruit at eye level to take photos of. Very happy to find out the ID and will long remember my first encounter with the Large-fruited Red Mahogany!

I got this comment on social media in relation to this sighting @Tapirlord:

"The fruit and cap are slightly off for E. scias subsp scias, which are larger and more “dramatic” in their features.

The bark in the pictured tree has the typical Grey Gum form- shedding partially in patches to reveal a bright orange underneath and the remaining bark is light grey and speckled.
E scias has persistent rough bark that does not shed annually.
I would say Eucalyptus punctata, not sure of subspecies. The large fruits differentiate from E. propinqua - another local Grey Gum"

Hey Matthew, sorry its been a couple days but I've finally got around to this. It does look like I've made and error in the key which lead to S.scais over something like E.punctata. Having compared the two species the fruit you have pictured is a better fit for E.punctata, plus the form & bark look better as well. Sorry about all of that, and please thank whoever it was that pointed out the correct ID!

Thanks @Tapirlord it's good to have so many knowledgeable people looking at these plants to get to a correct ID. I'm happy to be told what it is, especially when it comes to the Eucalypts outside of the Canberra region.
