Photo 5. I was watching this nest with the parents returning to feed young chicks when a Crimson Rosella arrived and peered into the hollow. At one stage it entered the hollow with only the tip of its tail emerging. It then spent at least half an hour chewing at the bark both inside and outside of the hollow. Meanwhile both Pardalote parents arrived with food and rather than attacking the Rosella, sat in the tree opposite (photos 1 and 2). Eventually the Rosella gave up and left. The Pardalotes then took turns in entering the nest with the food. I feared the Rosella had killed the chicks, but it seems they survived as the Pardalotes came back again later. I was very relieved.
