@SimoneC I'm wondering if this is actually a mud-dauber wasp, possibly Pison. Although not clear in the photos, it was actually adding fresh mud to the nest. A second cell has since been added.
Yes you may be right, I did think that myself after doing the confirmation. Some Pompilidae do use mud in their nest too encasing spiders. I’ll have another look
