User's notes
This and the following two sightings 4538482 and 4538483 are of the same Osprey. The sequence of images has been spread across three NatureMapr sightings in order to provide as much record information as possible of the Osprey’s behaviour as it dealt with its catch over a two-hour period. The Osprey was initially seen landing on the top of a part-dead mangrove tree with the still alive and flapping fish in its right talons. It spent some time transferring the fish to its left talons by which time the fish had stopped moving. The Osprey then gradually ate half the fish starting at the head and working back towards the tail. When the Osprey was unable to tear strips of flesh from the fish it resorted to gripping the flesh in its beak and twisting its head side-to-side through about 180 degrees until the flesh came away. During the two hours the bird was observed it constantly kept looking all around and above, but no other birds attempted to harass it or take the fish. The Osprey eventually flew off with the remaining rear half of the fish. Thanks to Barbara for the initial sighting of the Osprey in flight just before it landed.
