This sequence of images shows close up details of the Craypot Stinkhorn fungus recorded in sighting 4539257. The brown patches in the images appeared to have a granular structure which was presumably the spore masses. These patches eventually turned into the fetid, spore-bearing brown liquid, which is so attractive to flies. The stench of the fungus as it grew, lived up to its name. The final image shows what I believe might be white mycelium filaments growing throughout the bark mulch beneath the fungus.
