The final image provides some detail of the structure behind the damselfly's head. There is a small light coloured, circular structure, which I understand is the anterior thoracic spiracle. This particular spiracle provides oxygen to the damselfly’s wing muscles and its brain. The spiracle has a flap-type valve which opens and closes as necessary and is closed in this image. This feature is usually hidden from view behind the damselfly's head/eye structure but is visible when the Damselfly is at rest, as in this image.
