Thank you for your comment Alison - I'd thought the same thing (hence the mention of the size), but I couldn't find any more suitable options. Do you have any clues/suggestions?
@GlossyGal Hi, I'm not an entomologist but I'm looking into it. A possible ID from iNaturlaist but I need to look furhter. May be out of my arnge of expertise. Next week is a scheduled 'clean-up' week for moderators so maybe someone else will look at this and come up with an ID.
@GlossyGal & @AlisonMilton I’m pretty sure this a Staghorn Fern Window-spot Leaf Beetle (Halticorcus platycerii), but I can’t see it in the options to select it as a Suggestion?
@GlossyGal it sure is a big name for a little creature😂😂Looks like Alison saw my message and has setup a placeholder with the name for you❤️but we may still need Aaron’s help as we can’t click the button to Verify your observation until a Species category/taxon is fully set up for Halticorcus platycerii😊
Thank you for the explanation Di, and thank you for researching the ID. I'm hoping to add more sightings of insects over time so I'm glad there's someone out there who's looking at them!
We don't need Aaron's help. Any Beetle moderator can add the new species, including myself. I made the suggestion but am not prepared to confirm it so have left it for a more experienced Moderator to check and add and verify the sighting. Alison
@AlisonMilton ah sweet, that makes sense😊@glossygal happy to help, I’d be happy to verify this, but as I’m new to NatureMapr I’m not comfortable setting up a species in the database so I agree with Alison, that this should be left to a more experienced moderator to finalise it for you💚
@MichaelMulvaney wondering if would you be able to assist with the setup & verification of this one, suggesting it is a Staghorn Fern Window-spot Leaf Beetle (Halticorcus platycerii). Alison has started the process for me but I’m not comfortable completing the setup without someone with more experience looking into it first. Thanks so much😊
