User's notes
Known locally as Farmer’s Friends & Cobblers Pegs, this is an unforgettable plant if you’ve ever brushed against its ripe seed heads (photo 4) ~ it takes time & perseverance to get them out of socks & clothing! Photo 1 shows some immature seeds yet to ripen and open, in contrast with the mature seeds in photo 4. Common throughout the NSW North Coast and well beyond I imagine, A daisy style yellow flower, locally the plants don’t develop ray florets (photos 1 & 3). However I have seen flowers with occasional white ray florets further up the coast. I’ve yet to see a flower with a complete circle of rays. Photo 2 shows a young plant just forming a bud, and photo 5 shows a typical cluster of several plants together. I understand that the leaves are edible, best cooked, but even so, not necessarily palatable!
