User's notes

All the massive gum trees snaking around the creek in this spot have this peppered look to their trunks and some even up higher than that. At a distance it looks like bullet holes, but up close most are crusty black bits sitting on top of the bark. Most of the bark around it is dinted, brittle looking. Is this normal, or some kind of borer that causes this?
