Antechinus stuartii was revised in 1998 to include A. agilis as a new species occupying the southern part of this groups range on the south coast of NSW to as far north as Kioloa. A. agilis is greyer than stuartii in the southern part of the range and tends to have an eye ring whereas stuartii does not and is usually browner in colour. While they are difficult to tell apart in the field, the colouration and locality appears to suggest agilis rather than stuartii.
