Ceodes umbellifera (birdlime tree)

Ceodes umbellifera J.R.Forst. & G.Forst. (1776) . 
Synonym since ca. 2020 July 7th: Pisonia umbellifera (J.R.Forst. & G.Forst.) Seem. (1862) . 

Small tree of coastal and littoral rain forest north from Shoalhaven River. 
The very sticky fruits are its most distinctive feature. They can entrap birds, hence the common name.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in Cape York Peninsula, the wet tropics bio-region NE. Qld., central eastern Qld. and southwards to coastal central New South Wales. 
Altitudinal range from sea level to 750 m.
Grows in well developed rain forest on a variety of sites.
Also occurs in Madagascar, SE Asia, Malesia and the Pacific islands.

Habitat and Distribution:

In subtropical rain forest and littoral rain forest; scattered coastal sites north from Jervis Bay, N.S.W., to Port Macquarie, and also at Ballina, N.S.W., and in N Qld, from Yeppoon (N of Rockhampton) to the Iron Range, on Cape York Peninsula; 
also New Guinea, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Malesia, South-East Asia, Africa and Madagascar.
Also recorded on the Solitary Islands (E of Coffs Harbour) in coastal scrub.
