Ponerinae is a subfamily of the Formicidae. The Ponerinae contains genera including Platythyrea, Cryptopone, Ponera and Hypoponera. While not rare, these ants are not often seen, as most species forage in litter or rotten wood. Nests can sometimes be found underneath logs or stones.
