Technomyrmex sp. (genus)

The majority of Technomyrmex species nest and forage arboreally or sub-arboreally. The few species that nest in soil or leaf litter still forage on trunks and in the canopy. Some specialised myrmecophilous plants have been reported to house Technomyrmex species. The diet mainly consists of hemipteran honeydew, though most species also feed on dead or living arthropods or their brood. [Source: AntWiki]

Globally, the majority of species are tropical or subtropical, but the ant may be found in all Australian states, from far northern Australia to Tasmania.

There are around 10 species indigenous to Australia and there is one exotic species, Technomyrmex albipes. The most commonly collected Australian species in ALA records is Technomyrmex jocosus, found mainly through the southern parts of the continent, as far north as southern Queensland.
