Anepischetosia maccoyi (MacCoy's Skink)

MacCoy’s Skink is one of ten skinks in the Nannoscincus genus found in Australia and New Caledonia. Nannoscincus belong to the Eugongylus Group of skinks.

MacCoy’s Skink is a small slender skink with very short legs. Colour is uniform, varying from rich brown to dark grey. The under parts are bright yellow. The tail is distinctive as being thick and only tapers very gradually so that it appears almost uniform in thickness. This is a burrowing skink that is rarely seen. Its habitat is Wet sclerophyll forest, where it spends most of its time under rocks, logs and leaf litter. It is sometimes mistaken for the Three-toed Skink, however, the Three-toed Skink has three digits on each limb, while MacCoy’s Skink has five digits.
