This genus of ant is very common in hot arid environments - they love the heat. There are many species - nearly 100 based on morphology and possibly many times this number based on genetics, Around the ACT there are about half a dozen species and they tend to be active during the warmer parts of the day during the warmer parts of the year. They are mainly seed eaters.
