Bees (Hymenoptera, Apiformes)

An introduction to Australian Native Bees can be found here:

https://www.aussiebee.com.au/beesinyourarea.html

The identification of bees from photographs can be difficult as tiny details on the animals have to be seen. Michael Batley, our moderator for bees has begun a trial identification tool for bees. The test groups are Megachilid bees and Hylaeine bees found in the Sydney basin and Blue Mountains.

If you want to try the identification tools, the addresses for the two groups are below:-

Megachilid bees

Hylaeine bees

L. australica was a typographical error which I can't seem to delete.

On second thought after consultation with MB, this looks more like a wasp - stinger on rear abdomen and antennae low on the face.
Can't delete the Leioproctus ID though!

I would say it is definitely either L. moerens or L. submoerens (without further study we can't say which name applies to which species). The hair bands are too narrow for L. australica and the hind femur and tibia are too narrow as well.

MB thinks this is probably Hyphesma atromicans, but too blurry to be sure.
