Cockroaches (Blattodea, several families)

A good reference for Cockroaches is the book “A Guide to the Cockroaches of Australia” by David Rentz. https://www.publish.csiro.au/book/6710/

This webpage by the CSIRO is also useful:

I think this is more likely to be a Balta Sp. possibly B.bicolor, but I need to check its range and other similar species.

I found several of these inside an old palm sheath on the ground, and admittedly am making the leap that they are Allacta australiensis. Nymphs in "A Guide to the Cockroaches of Australia" by David Rentz are similar, and other examples via a google search also look similar. This is the only example of its genus in Australia, and while Rentz shows it does not occur south of the Queensland border, it mentions distribution is patchy. It is associated with specific host trees which fits, although Rentz does not mention which trees. This is the only nymph I can find which remotely matches this specimen.

Interesting sighting @Span102! I think it is probably Ellipsidion humerale, but online it is also very similar to some images of Balta bicolor.

Thank you, I don't think I've ever seen one before and the tree itself had self-seeded only a year or so ago.
