A quote from "mammals of Australia" field guide (Menkhorst and Knight) re Hydrurga leptonyx Distribution Habitat and Status:
"Throughout the southern ocean. Regular visitor to southern Australia, mostly Jul-Nov and mostly as sub adults frequently in poor condition. Also vagrant to Qld and NSW waters including Heron and Lord Howe Island."
