A single large tree, just beginning to flower

Photos 3 -5 show large bracts enclosing young developing flowers which I think makes this plant either Acacia iteaphylla or Acacia suaveolens. I am not that familiar with these wattles or of Acacia linearifolia so will live it to some-one else to confirm. It is important to get this ID correct as Acacia linearifolia is an uncommon local species while the other wattles are weeds in this region, with a high weed risk potential.

I don't believe it is Acacia suaveolens, my pictures don't show it too well, but the flowers were a lot more yellow that the pictures i've seen of A. suaveolens in flower, which is closer to white, and the leaves and bracts of A. suaveolens don't quite match. I think A. iteaphylla is closer to correct, although it's hard to differentiate between A. iteaphylla and A. linearifolia

Yeah I think you might have hit the nail on the head with Acacia iteaphylla. After doing some more reading, it's definitely not A. linearifolia, because none of the literature says that A. linearifolia forms bracts. I don't think it's A. suaveolens, as A. suaveolens flowers are more white in colour, the bracts have less of a fine point at their tip, and the leaves appear too broad

Yep - good one Michael - I have never heard of this around Albury before, I wonder if Sue Brunskill knows of it. It has naturalised in other parts of Aus / in similar urban situations. Nice looking but !
