This is the western end of Stockyard Spur so snow gums with lots of poa and native flowers such as the asteraceae as well as the high altitude peas. The management trail is often quite grassy with dirt/small rocks where the wheel tracks have formed. The grasshopper was laying its eggs in one of the wheel tracks. In summer the area abounds in skinks and insects such as butterflies and there were a lot of cicadas around (I photographed 3 types) on the day I was there.
Thanks. I know the spot but haven't visited there for several years. There have been a few sightings of this species this season but mostly at lower altitude (ie Kambah). Wheel and other tracks are a common but hazardous spot for grasshoppers to lay and many a female has been squashed by a passing hiker as they cannot escape once the abdomen is extended. I hope to get up to the Brindabellas next week.
