Looks more like a grass than it does a sedge

Possibly - the seed heads reminded me more of a sedge like Cyperus though - unfortunately there is not a higher category than genus I could suggest in the taxonomy.

I agree that the emerging infloresence gives of sedge "vibes", but I suspect the plant is to leafy. Cyperaceae tend to have longer, broader leaves that are often channled, these leaves are much shorter & thinner. I reckon Poaceae & possibly Entolasia stricta?

Currently we don't really have any broader classification beyond genus, the current system uses rather arbitrary subcategories aimed at making things easier for amateur contributors. If we were going make a higher ID here it would be Order Poales which isn't a particularly useful record.

Agreed about the taxonomy. The categories can be a bit of a maze at times. And thank you for your comments, you may well be correct. However my expertise with Grasses and Sedges is more limited than other plant groups so might be best to leave for someone else with more knowledge.

Its a Cyperus trinervis. Most of the leaf is from grasses growing among it. This is what it looks like https://www.flickr.com/photos/macleaygrassman/50608635456
